I'm a big fan of the Sid Meier's Civilization franchise for almost two decades now. The idea of building and expanding your own empire is so much fun. Lately, I've been sporadically playing Civilization 6; even buying the DLCs Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm.

So when a chance to take a week off came, the ruins of Angkor (one the many Wonders you can build in the game) was the obvious choice. I'm ashamed to admit that at the time my knowledge of Cambodia was limited to the atrocities of Khmer Rouge. There just weren't reasons where the country comes up during conversations. I'm happy to say that after my week-long visit, I know a little bit more about Cambodia and its people.

Angkor Wat is one big temple surrounded by a moat. During my visit, the main pathway was under repair so we had to walk on a temporary floating bridge to get to the main complex.
Inside Angkor Wat is a long line of other tourists who want to climb the central structure. I did not have the patience to wait. :)
Banteay Srei is a small temple. It's famous for the its red sandstone wall carved with intricate designs.
At the back of the Banteay Srei is a group of musicians.
The faces of Bayon Temple is very iconic and for good reasons.
Preah Khan is my favorite among all the temples I visited. It looks more like the ruin I have pictured in my mind and there are far fewer visitors.
There are tourist officers everywhere. This was taken late into the afternoon. I bet she's too tired with the summer heat and keeping tabs on all the tourists.11
